The reserve was created to protect a well-educated Carpathian beech forest complex in the zone of transition of the foothill floor into the lower part together with a valuable stand and stands of numerous rare and protected plant species. The reserve is located within the Słonne Mountains Landscape Park, on the slopes of Mount Oratyk (643 m a.s.l.).
