The reserve covers an area of ​​354.47 ha, its area covers the north-eastern slopes of the Chwaniowa range, which is the northernmost fragment of the Polish Eastern Carpathians. There is a characteristic layout of mountain ridges and river valleys. The rich terrain is characterized by picturesque valleys of mountain streams, left-bank tributaries of the Wiar. The subject of protection here is a well-developed Carpathian regal beech forest. The extensive complexes of old trees are a great place to settle for numerous "forest" species, including eagle owl, black stork and the Carpathian deer.
