The highest shelter in Bieszczady in Połonina Wetlińska (1232 m), popularly known as the Cottage or Tavern, was established in the 1950s as a military observation point. In 1956, PTTK took them over, but only since 1967 has it been operating as a year-round facility with service. For the most part of this time (with breaks until today) it is led by one of the best-known pioneers of Bieszczady, Ludwik Pińczuk. This is what the fashionable, naïve song about the "hut on Połoniny" and the horse says, which "he liked the hay smell". The hostel is cramped and provides rather spartan conditions. Water is delivered in canisters from a rather distant source, so it is paid, even without the addition of tea essence. A permanent GOPR post is located in the Tavern.
