The Jewish cemetery in Lutowiska was probably founded in the second half of the 18th century, on a hill in the eastern part of Lutowiska, about 400 meters from the center of the village. The cemetery was used as a burial place for Jews from Lutowiska and surrounding towns, including: Polana, Skorodnego, Stuposianów and Zatwarnica. The cemetery occupies a plot of irregular quadrangle with an area of about 1 ha. The area is surrounded by a contemporary perch fence. It is known that before the war a funeral home was located in the western corner of the cemetery. During inventory work carried out in 1997 - 2002 under the supervision of prof. Jerzy Woronczak, about a thousand tombstones were identified. The oldest of them commemorates a man named Mosze, who died on December 5, 1796 (5 kislew 5557). The youngest matzeva comes from 1940. A new (upper) and old (lower) part of the cemetery can be distinguished. Due to the number of matzevot, the building belongs to the best preserved Jewish cemeteries in Poland. The artistic values of the tombstones deserve special attention. Thanks to the original, carefully made and elaborate ornamentation, matzevot from Lutowiska can be qualified to outstanding works of Jewish sepulchral art.
