The first mention of the equipment of the local church comes from 1584, the second parish church of the poviat. St. Nicholas was built in 1795, survived to 1904, the current temple was built in 1906, consecrated in 1907. In 1947, as a result of mass displacement of people, the church was deserted and served as a warehouse for a long time. In 1969, after long efforts, the abandoned and destroyed church was converted into a subsidiary Roman Catholic church. In recent years it has undergone extensive renovations, now it belongs to the Dwernik parish. It is an oriented, timbered, three-part temple, equipped with two sacristies, has one dome, small towers above the vestibule and the presbytery. Nothing has survived from the church's furnishings. At the church cemetery there are several tombstones from the turn of the century, and a tombstone containing inscriptions in the Old Church language from 1664: God's year 1644, the month of July, day 17. Here lies the noble Mrs. Feronia, the daughter of Mr. Eustachy Dubianski and the wife of Mr. Jan Orlicki. He rests here in faith, awaits the gift with which the Kingdom promised in heaven is a gift. The robe contains the coat of arms of the Orlickis, and the initials of the deceased. The church in Chmiel is associated with an interesting event related to the shooting of the scenes for the film "Mr. Wołodyjowski" when a conservator issued a permit to burn the church, for the purposes of the Raszków burning scene, but the temple was saved under pressure from conservationists.
