Smolnik

Go to map

The name of the place is derived from the Ukrainian words '' smola '' and the Polish '' pitch '', most likely there was once a settlement of tarry who defended the borders against nearby robbers. The first material mention of an existing Orthodox parish in Smolnik comes from the conscript register of the Sanok region from 1589. It should be assumed that the church was founded immediately after the village was founded and settled on Wallachian law after 1530. Smolnik is one of the oldest oil mining centers in the world, oil mines existed here before 1884. The village lies on the wooden architecture trail of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship
