The town is located entirely within the Bieszczady National Park. Józef Sikorski, a participant in the January Uprising of 1863, came from Tarnawa, he was buried in Dźwiniacz Górny, he died in 1923. From 1855 in Tarnawa Wyżna, the priest was Jan Wendziłowicz, a Greek Catholic priest, painter and sculptor.
