The village lies at the mouth of the stream Smerek (formerly Smrek) to Wetlina (tributary of Solinka). The name of the village of Smerek comes from the Slovak name of spruce (smrek). In 1881 the village had 557 inhabitants, the majority ownership belonged to Adelaide count. Davids. Until 1947, the local parish belonged to the Baligród deanery, Przemyśl diocese. Currently, the parish in Baligród Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary belongs to the Lesko deanery.
