Maidan

Go to map

A forest settlement in the Solinka valley, 2 km from Cisna (about 70 inhabitants). The main station of the Bieszczady forest railway, which runs to Przysłupia and Balnica. Majdan is a former hamlet of Cisna built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries at the end of the cable car. Initially there was a timber reloading yard (hence the name), then a small settlement and a steam sawmill were built, after which the foundations remained. In 1979, a mini-museum of the forest railway was established in Majdan - several old wagons and locomotives were placed on the siding. However, the exhibits were constantly devastated by vandals, so in 1991 they were handed over to the narrow-gauge railway museum in Sochaczew near Warsaw. Only the memorial stone with the history of the queue carved in brass remained.
