The construction of the dam began in 1960. The main earthworks and foundation works were completed in 1964. In July that year, the construction of the dam body began. Basic concreting works at the dam were closed at the end of February 1968. In the meantime, construction of the power plant building and assembly of hydro power equipment was underway. The initial start-up of the first turbine took place on March 9, 1968, and on July 20 that year (on the eve of the July 22 holiday) the dam was put into service. There is currently a large variety of fish species in the waters of the reservoir. The most common are zander and perch, but also large specimens of asp, bream and roach, pike, catfish, carp and chub. Numerous specimens of prosperous cyprinids can be observed in the lake's waters from the dam's crown: they benefit from abundant feeding by tourists visiting the dam. The surroundings of the Solina Lake are frequently visited by tourists and holidaymakers. Several recreational centers were established on its shores, and on the west shore of the lake there is the well-known spa town Polańczyk. Bathing is possible at designated bathing areas - in other places bathing is dangerous due to inaccessible shores and numerous underwater obstacles. There is a silence zone around the entire tank (no internal combustion engines, except for Police and WOPR). Sailing and windsurfing are practiced, but the reservoir is not easy: its special feature (compared to lowland reservoirs), caused by the fragmentation of the water surface and the influence of high banks, is the variability and unpredictability of winds. However, most of the mooring areas are muddy (due to water fluctuations) or rocky. Outside of Polańczyk, on the lake there are only a few available marinas with very limited infrastructure. The Solina Reservoir, however, is quite popular among sailors and canoeists because of the landscape and the less "commercialized" nature than, for example, the Great Masurian Lake District. Cruise ships run on the lake during the summer season.
