The name of the village comes from the Wallachian language, probably from the name of the founder (cf. Romanian Giurgiu - "Jerzy") on December 19, 1480, three Balowie brothers: they divided the goods of the late father Jan Bal. Matiasz's older brothers and father Piotr was given the villages of: Dziurdziów, Hoczew, Terpiczów (Bachlawa).
